gUs, inc is a grass-roots effort to reinvent and reallocate talents and resources toward a durable business model.   Regardless of how bad the economy gets, site maintenance needs seem to never go away. 

gUs, inc is an Illinois Corporation, and has 3 subsidiaries:

  • the groundUP stores is the retail division - both online (ecommerce) and in brick-and-mortar format.
  • the groundUP s.s.i. is our field services and contracting division (s.s.i. stands for "Sales, Service & Installation").  We offer installation on everything that we sell at the groundUP stores; as well as seal coating, parking lot striping, pressure washing, and a whole holst of other site maintenance and construction services.
  • Furman DeSigns is the architectural division of the company, which is an Illinois Registered Professional Design Firm.

 

The name "gUs" is an acronym, which stands for ground-UP strategies

The term ground-up has multiple connotations which are appropriate for the various aspects of our business:  new facilities are often referred to as “ground-UP” projects; the term also describes the type of services that we offer through the retail and site maintenance portions of our business – “offering everything from the ground-UP”; and  furthermore, it acts as a metaphor for new beginnings:  when starting over, a person is considered to be “beginning from the ground-UP”.  For all of these reasons, this name seemed appropriate for the business.

This statement is on the front page of our website, but bears repeating here:

the groundUP stores & the groundUP s.s.i. operate with 12 basic business practices and goals in mind:

  1. Provide our customers with GOOD, QUALITY products - most of which are made right here in the USA (unfortunately, we can't always find a GOOD, REPUTABLE U.S. manufacturer that we'd like to represent, so several of the products are manufactured in other countries)‚Äč
  2. Provide HONEST & FAIR pricing - if we save money, you should save money, too.
  3. Assure that our customers purchase the products that are appropriate for their specific needs & scenario.
  4. Stand behind our products and services, offering our customers a warranty on everything that we sell and all of our services.
  5. Strive for 100% customer satisfaction with each and every transaction.
  6. Treat even the smallest order and project with the same urgency and respect that others might reserve for just their biggest customers.
  7. Do what we say we're going to do, when we say we're going to do it.
  8. Communicate with our customers when unforeseen delays do occur (we won't leave you guessing).
  9. Always search for the win-win (this carries through to our customers, partners, vendors and employees).
  10. Become the "go-to" problem solvers for our customers in as many categories as possible.  The best compliment we get from our customers is when they call us and ask "can you also do....?
  11. Never forget that business is about relationships (it's not about sales).
  12. Protect the greatest asset that we will ever own - our reputation.

We bring a level of professionalism and customer service into this venture that you don’t often find with site maintenance companies. It’s through our follow-up and honest business practices that we’ve managed to garner the trust of many companies throughout  the Upper Midwest, boasting an annual growth rate of 300%  since our inception in 2009.

Since the inception of this website, we've believed in providing fair shipping prices to our customers.  This included utilizing 3 different carriers to provide "real-time" shipping quotes, and not adding any mark-up to those prices.  What we've found over the past several years is that pricing by the shippers' websites has been anything but accurate.  This has resulted in dropped orders; overcharging customers (which then led to refunds); or undercharging customers (which left us to pay the difference).  In 2014, we will be going to a "FREE" ground shipping service (UPS, FedEX and USPS).  Of course, that means our prices will be increasing to cover shipping costs, but the system will be much more user friendly and will lead to higher customer satisfaction. 

You will still have the option to expedite the order if you need a product sooner than the standard shipping period.  Please call for additional shipping options and related costs.

Products that are required to ship via Freight due to size and/ or weight are EXCLUDED from this free shipping service. Please call for a shipping quote.

You will notice that the per-unit price on most items will decrease with the more items that you purchase (ie:  one sign may cost you $7.15, but if you purchased 25, the unit price may be $1.40 each).  Always check multiple quantities to see how you can save money.
